25 Law Interns Complete a Seven-Months Training in Hargeisa



The Ministry of Justice, the High Judicial Commission of Somaliland and the UNDP UN-Multi Partner Trust Fund (UNMPTF) Rule of Law Joint Program held a graduation ceremony for 25 law interns (of which 7 are women) at the Ministry of Justice that was attended by the Minister of Justice, the Chief Justice, Director General of Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor, State Minister of Presidency and the head of the UNDP area office.


The graduates, of which the majority are youth will work as legal professionals in all the regions of Somaliland as part of the Justice Reform initiatives supported by UNDP.
“We are doing our best to give you jobs” said the Chief Justice, “This is why we trained you for seven months so that you will be part of the reform. We are going to have extensive discussions on your job placement together with the Minister of Justice, General Prosecutor and other officials.” He concluded by thanking the UNMPTF donors and UNDP for their continuous support in the justice sector”.
“It is not only towns that needs you, people in the districts and villages also need you” said the Minister of Justice pointing out the importance of reaching out to the communities as part of the justice reform process the ministry is working on. 
The head of the UNDP Area office in Hargeisa, recognized the training as an important milestone towards a stronger rule of law sector in Somaliland and he pledged the UNDP’s continued support to the Rule of Law and justice sector in Somaliland.
“I am very happy I finally graduated” said Muna Ali Nur “I am looking forward to finally work as a legal professional” she said.
Muna is a young woman born in Hargeisa. She graduated from the faculty of Law at the University of Hargeisa in 2013 and has yet to have the opportunity to work in the judicial sector. Muna has high hopes to make her dream of becoming a professional legal worker a reality after having graduated.
